High School of the Dead: Seriously? Seriously Seriously?

Currently finished: Episode 6

My first question is: did Hollywood make this?! I mean, really, that whole scene towards the end of the episode just feels so Hollywood.

My second question is: how the hell this anime is staying on the top of my new anime poll? Are my blog readers all so this tasteless?!

Seriously, there may be some redeeming value for this anime, but I would not put this as the top rated anime for this season, not even by a long shot.

People love zombie movies, and for the most part, that's what this is. It has all the elements of a classic cheesy zombie movie with an Anime flare.

Yes, I figured so. But the keyword here is "cheesy". Would anybody put a cheesy B-movie on top of poll?

I think it also has to do with the fact that there aren't any (or at least very many) zombie series out there. I enjoy the mix of action, humor, and zombie killing. Is this a deep show that will change the way I think? No. Is it an awesome action show that gets me pumped up every week? Yes. But I do agree that this isn't the best show of the season.

I've seen a couple people recommend this anime but to me it looks pretty terrible. Then again, I'm extremely picky, but still. As a side note, I love your blog! It gives me a good idea of which new shows I should and shouldn't bother checking out, so thanks!

Is it my favorite Anime this season? No... Is it in my top five? Most definitely. Seems to be in most other people's top five also hence the high rating. Don't underestimate the attraction of zombies, mindless violence, and sex.

hm...no, I would not put in my top 5 for the season either. It probably barely makes the cut to the upper half.

I have been watching this also, even though the start kept me interesting the latest 2 episodes had so much fanservice that i probably thinking to drop this. It is okay to have some fanservice and panty shots but this is going of the charts for me. there are beter things to watch then this.

It's not bad enough for me to drop it just yet. I mean, if I'm going to only judge animes like this using the amount of fan service as a measure, I'd probably would have drop Sekirei long time ago. It's the fact so far every thing in this anime has just been stereotypical all the way through. There really isn't any character development that would make you want to be attache to any of the major character. In fact, if any of those main character get killed, I probably wouldn't feel too bad about it, where as if any of the main characters in Sekirei gets killed, I'd probably feel upset about it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that fan service isn't the main problem here, character being too shallow is the problem.

True at that, there is not much character building, but the fact that i want to drop the series is not of the fanservice alone, its just that it follows your traditional zombie scenes, nothing original. although i got to mention even though they use cliché scenes, they make them look epic. But that alone isn't enough to keep me watching.

I guess i'll watch for 3 more episodes before making a final decision, that is more then generous enough imo.

This is probably my top watched anime out this season. Why? Well I read the manga and like what is to come. I'm actually against ecchi in anime, but without the fan service this would be fill with such melancholy moments I would probably like it less. Though they dragged out the bath scenes a little too much I think I forgive them for this one episode. The action is awesome, and so is the soundtrack. And like people said before me, zombie killing rules.

I guess it's the matter of personal taste, because I would have liked it better if it does filled with melancholy moments. In my opinion, a disaster story is a disaster story, either take a direct to the point approach like Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, or make clear they're not treating themselves seriously to begin with like the movie Zombieland. But to me, this half-assed cheesy approach of trying to make itself look serious yet throws in fan service left and right is just plain tasteless. I mean those fan service is purely for attracting extra attention so that people normally aren't interested in the story would watch it for the fan service. To me, it just seem to be a outcry of not being confident enough in their story for attracting audiences.

To me is like finding meaning in a Theme park. That is not the point of this series. It is well done, nicely animated, mindless fun. Nothing wrong with that.

The Evil Cat said...

No, I'm not questioning the meaning of this anime nor did I say whether this anime is not fun. All I was trying to say is that in my opinion this anime doesn't deserve the top spot of the season.

I just like the violence in this anime. Not a lot of good bloody anime these days so I have to try look past the boobs and everything. But there's some pretty funny wtf ecchi scenes (matrix boobs lol)
