Tetsuwan Birdy Decode (Ended): I Totally Saw It Coming

Overall, Tetsuwan Birdy Decode is quite a decent anime. The ending, though, was blatantly obvious ever since the very beginning of last episode. I mean it's just so very typical for an anime that they want to make sequel on to finish with this open ending. Now, we're back to ground zero again. Next time, they can almost make anything with a completely fresh restart.

While I'm being critical about its highly commercially-valued ending, I have to say it is a very interesting anime. I did a little digging, and found out that there was an OVA named "Birdy the Mighty" released in 1996, which is based of the same manga series. Even more interesting, the manga was originally released in 1986 and abandoned then restarted in 2003 and has been running since. The OVA and the manga, have a much more what I call "hard edged" art style then the TV series. In most case, I like "soft edged" art style much better than "hard edged". But in this case, I have to say, Birdy looks a lot better in "hard edged" art style.

Final scoreboard (out of 5):

Drama: 4 (A bit forgetful, but not too bad)
Comedy: 3.5 (Not its focus)
Action: 4 (Definitely action centric anime, but noting too big)
Art/Animation: 3.5 (I'd probably like it better if the used the "hard edged" art style)
Sound/Music: 4 (Interesting opening theme song)
Character: 4 (Not character rich, but with relatively good depth)
Plot: 4 (A bit too slow)
Ending: 3.75 (Commercially valued ending)

Re-watch value: 2 (I don't see any reason to)

Overall (not average): 4 ~ Interesting

Recommendation: It's hard to justify for a place on the "must watch" list, but it's still quite good. I'd say have it near the top of the "pending" queue (if you have one ;-))
