First impression score: 78 - Is this a...sports anime?
Personal comments: Technically it's not a sports anime, but so far it exhibits all the same properties of a sports anime. Personally, I'm not very interested in "karuta", so, depending on how heavy it decides to go into the game, I may or may not be interested in watching the entire series.

Personally, I think you are selling this series short. I think it will probably go for more of a drama route than sports, or, at the very least, split between drama and sports. Although, I do say this after the second episode, which may alter my opinion of the series slightly. Either way, I still think you're short selling it:P

the reason I'm not scoring it very high is because so far everything so far seems like a very formulaic sports/game anime. Somehow I have a feeling it's not going break out of it. If it does, I'll for sure adjust my score accordingly.
