Romeo & Juliet: Not what you know

One of GONZO's latest work, Romeo & Juliet, supposedly to be a modern adaption of the old classic. Due to its track record (Gankutsuou vs. The Count of Monte Cristo), I knew they won't just make small modifications to the original story from the beginning. After the complete story unfolded, I can say this is nothing like the Romeo & Juliet we know. For better or worse? I can't quite tell. Although both are story about how can love bond people together, they are fundamentally different. The anime is more about redemption than love, even though love is the main theme. You really couldn't compare it to Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet.

Drama: 5 out of 5 (That's what it's all about, and they did a quite well, I'd say)
Comedy: N/A
Action: 3 out of 5 (Some fighting scenes, but that's not the main focus)
Art/Animation: 4.5 out of 5 (This is not the art work I'd normally like, but something in this made me liking it a lot)
Sound/Music: 5 out of 5 (Great theme song, great score and background music in the right time)
Character: 4.5 out of 5 (Very well portrait characters)
Plot: 4.5 out of 5 (It's hard to judge it without tieing it up with Shakespeare's work, but, nevertheless, it's a good story)
Re-watch value: 3 out of 5 (Again, dramas usually doesn't do well in this category)

Overall (not average): 4 out of 5

Recomendation: If you are into stories like Romeo & Juliet (Shakespeare's), you might be interested in it. Otherwise, you may not like the pace of the show (too slow).
